Calico | Felicette-Class Ablatively-Cooled Engine

Calico is the latest engine developed by YJSP's Darcy Program. By combining a forged carbon fiber combustion chamber, a machined silica nozzle, a fiberglass insulator overwrap, and a carbon fiber structural overwrap, Calcio achieves excellent thermal performance in a lightweight package. These multi-color composite components also inspired the engine's name, which pays homage to the Darcy Program's cat-related heritage. In April 2025, Calico completed a successful 3-second test fire, becoming YJSP's most powerful flight engine to date. The results of this short-duration test validated the ignition sequence and structural integrity of Calico, while a future full-duration test fire will characterize the thermal performance and efficiency of the engine. Fueled by nitrous oxide and isopropyl alcohol, Calico will power YJSP's upcoming rocket Felicette to record-breaking heights.
